Pilates Session 5

Today we covered:

  • General recap and consolidation
  • Practical delivery of your 6 exercises for Main with feedback
  • Using a planning grid to drill into some of the exercise detail
  • Teaching skills using the ladder of progression
  • Methods of instructing with a focus on “add on” and “layering”
  • A quick recap on special pops (focus on pre and post + older adult). See two videos below. Remember you will NOT be diagnosing a diastasis or working with anyone who has an abdominal separation. It’s just for information.
  • Please note that the slides contain lots of info on all 4 special population groups.
  • Risk assessment using the 5×5 plus the ICO and registration
  • Stretching types: static, dynamic and ballistic. Preparatory short stretches, developmental and maintenance stretching.
  • The theory behind stretching (the stretch reflex, muscle spindles/stretch receptors, GTOs)
  • PNF stretching and how it works (reciprocal inhibition and autogenic inhibition – also see video below)
  • Planning for close – 3 Exercises and all the mandatory requirements
  • We also looked at some case studies.

I have updated the Class Planning Cheat Sheet. I have also uploaded here my assessor matrix document
