Yes!Most people think strong legs are about exercise.
They're not.
They're about freedom.
At 40, strong legs might mean running five kilometres.
At 70, they might mean carrying your own shopping.
At 80, they might mean climbing the stairs without thinking about it.
At 90, they might mean walking out the front door whenever you feel like it.
Same legs.
Completely different definition of wealth.
This is one of the strange things about ageing. The things we spend decades taking for granted slowly become the things that matter most.
Standing up without help.
Walking to the corner shop.
Getting on a bus.
Taking the long way home because the weather is nice.
Nobody dreams about these things when they're young.
That's because freedom is easiest to ignore when you have plenty of it.
Growing old is a privilege.
Growing old while still being able to go where you want?
That's another kind of fortune entirely.
So walk.
Take the stairs when you can.
Keep using your legs while they're asking to be used.
You aren't just exercising for today.
You're putting a little freedom aside for later.
— Keep Your Doctor Away Club

Happy, happy Birthday to Jan! Jan is one of our brilliant instructors for Steady on Your Feet and Vista Balance. Usually in Braunton, Ilfracombe and Westward Ho! However, today she is going above and beyond by covering Anitas classes, while she is on her hols.
We wish you the best of days, Jan, and thanks for all you do.
Sorry, not sorry, for sharing the pano pick that I took in Ilfracombe, which says more about your fantastic teaching and my poor photography skills than your body shape!
Much love, Anita and team x

Our Beryl Edwards has been challenging peoples ideas of what an older person can achieve - again! She was joined by Dorothy, Denise and Karin too. We are so proud of you all ❤️Huge congratulations to Beryl, who joined one of our free adult cycle training sessions this week - and absolutely smashed it.
Whether you’re getting back on a bike after years away, building confidence on two wheels, or trying cycling for the very first time, our friendly sessions are here to help you feel supported, safe and ready to enjoy being on a bicycle.
“My session cycling with Active Devon was just brilliant!! I cannot thank Jason enough for his patience and encouragement which finally got me cycling on my own. I haven’t cycled for 50 years so it not only gave me a great sense of achievement but of ‘freedom’, the wind blowing in my face and not a care in the world (apart from staying on). Thank you for such an incredible experience.” Beryl, age 90
If Beryl can rediscover the joy and freedom of cycling, why not give it a go too? Take a look for more information: www.activedevon.org/adult-cycle-training/

Thank you Karin for being my riding buddy, you made all the difference. All credit to Vista Wellbeing for arranging this for the Tribe, you always find new things to interest and challenge us, I would never have done it on my own. One of my friends has signed up for a session in September, I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.

Go Beryl! 🥳

Not an easy message to hear, but one that we talk about in our steady on your feet and balance classes. Practice happens in class. Don’t try on your own unless you’re confident, but this is so important! ... See MoreSee Less

This is the best thing I’ve seen and it is totally true. My husband and I are well into our 80’s and we go to regular balance classes with Vista Wellbeing. The one thing that we regularly practice at home as well as in class is how to get up from the floor and we are both totally confident that we can do it. If we can do it anyone can.

This is really important. I help out at Vista’s fall prevention group and I can see how doing the exercises leads to better balance, better posture and most certainly more confidence. I am always amazed at how well our clients progress, the determination and perseverance they show is so impressive.
