What will you do to support your mental health today? I am going to take a lunchtime walk as the weather looks like it is brightening up. (Of course, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes - ha ha!).
But of course, we should remember to take care of our mental health, and that of others, every day. Easier said than done, I know, but lets just do our best.
Earlier this year, we worked with The Mental Health Community, to explore the needs of our team, and how we can best support each other. It was a really worthwhile exercise, and I believe it has made us more aware of the little things we can do that make a difference. Today, lets pledge to be more compassionate and supportive to others, knowing that we all have a story that can impact on our wellbeing, and how we manage our stories is a very individual thing.
I shopped in town today and was running late so decided to have a treat and pick up fish and chips for lunch. I started to chat with the lady in front of me who was picking up lunch to share with a friend. She thanked me for chatting and said I was the first person who’d spoken to her for a few days. Note to self - do it again if you see someone looking a bit down.
Our friends at North Devon Homes have a new memory cafe starting next month. Run by dementia trained staff but you don't need to have a formal diagnosis to attend.
